I can see why the chef got a James Beard! The restaurant is served tapas style so you split different plates which is nice. The food came out quickly and they quickly cleared our plates and refilled our water. Our waiter could've been more friendly and checked how we were doing more. Definitely recommend if you are in Chicago
My favorites were the
- the arancini
- duck croquettes
- braised duck shoulder
- apple crosistant
These dishes were alright and I wouldn't order again
-broccolini
- seafood risottoHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 2 - Nov 27, 2023
I had a 5-star experience here through and through! I cannot wait to get back and check it out again.
GLOWS:
- I was able to make a same day reservation.
-The service was impeccable. Everyone worked together. Ordering and getting our food out was seamless.
-Everything I ate was delicious and flavorful. The presentation was on point and matched the taste!
-Although it was a pork based restaurant, there were still things for us swine free folks!
-It was lively and casually in essence, but the service/experience matched a fine dining establishment! It was the perfect combo
GROWS:
-The sweet potato cake wasn't what I expected, but it was still good. I would prefer to remove whatever coffee flavored sprinkles that were on top.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kimberly K.Peabody, MAAug 30, 2024
One of our favorite meals in Chicago. Highly recommend the salted beet salad. Pork shoulder was delicious. But my hubs was DROOLING over our seat-mate's pork shank.

Me and my boyfriend had at really good time at the purple pig, Troy our waiter was very attentive, we had the duck croquet, fried pig ear, bone marrow, beet pistachio salad and pork belly. Very cute looking place. Very good and rare wines as well for a good price. Is a place you must go in Chicago.

Me and my husband visited the other day. We came from LA, and The Purple Pig was one of the recommended food places in Downtown Chicago. We really enjoyed our food. I personally think that all dishes we ordered are perfect. Our server, John was accommodating and was always checking on us. It was a nice experience and we are definitely coming back when we see Chicago again. We had Crispy Pig Ears, Salted Roasted Beets with Whipped Goat Cheese & Pistachio Vinaigrette (This is also best when eaten with bread) Duck Croquettes, Pork Blade Steak with Nduja & Honey, & Milk Braised Berkshire Shoulder. The servers, bussers, and the staff restaurant are all accommodating. The Ambiance is excellent.

It took us three tries to get in here- ended up there for lunch on a Thursday and it was still packed (do Chicagoans ever go to work?). We were a little skeptical about the tapas style because we were seated at a high top table and some of the menu items do not seem to lend themselves to sharing. Much to our surprise and delight though it worked beautifully! Items came out "as they were ready" so if the idea of sharing is a hard no for you, you might want to make another choice or you will end up sitting, drooling, while your dining companions chow down around you. Everything we ate was delicious, although I can't remember all the specifics on dishes (except brussels and beets!)

Reservation is a must.
First meal in Chicago.
Pork belly was crispy outside and tender inside.
Flavor was sweet with ginger tartness.
Seafood risotto was creamy and delicious
Beef tartare came out in smoke presentation.
Waiter mixed the quail and beef tartare for you.
Amazing foods and services.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - 752931178May 12, 2024

Obviously with the amount of positive reviews, you know this place is going to be amazing. I've actually lived in Chicago for a few years now and decided to try this place for my 30th birthday based on some recommendations from friends and I'm so glad I did!
The tuna tartare and the Sicilian iris were amazing. The filet mignon was also very good and had a unique sauce, it was cooked excellently. The tuna tartare was actually my favorite though because it was unexpected and so pretty!
Also the staff was amazing, they made me feel so special on my birthday, super friendly and attentive and gave me a glass of champagne to celebrate. I'll definitely be coming back. The chef and owner Jimmy Bannos was actually out walking around talking to customers too which was nice to see.
Overall, 10/10 a must try when you're in Chicago and worth the cost in my opinion. The bar is also full service so just drinks and an app would be worth it in my opinion!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 256106254Dec 30, 2023
Decided to try the Purple Pig on a friend's recommendation. Our meal was thoroughly enjoyable, with highlights including the milk braised pork shoulder (a must order!!! so tender), the pork tongue, and the delicious drinks.
The interior has a fun atmosphere, and the employees who brought out the food worked extremely hard to make our experience great! On the flip side, I thought that our main server was not the most efficient. We didn't get checked up on as much as I would've liked, and after all the waiting to get our dessert order taken, I decided to just ask for the check instead since we were pretty full from the delicious meal.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
