Everything was phenomenal here. Our server, Heriberto was so professional and gave great recommendations. Food was incredible - broccoli, fried mozzarella and linguine pasta. We both had espresso martinis for dessert which were the best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back.

Just two words to describe The Purple Pig? SO DELICIOUS. We made a reservation since we heard this was a James Beard award winning restaurant and they did not disappoint.
You have to get their short rib, it was life changing. I haven't had a short rib so tender before, but it was simply amazing. The pumpkin puree on the side was a nice sweet contrast with the savory short rib. I really enjoyed their crispy pig ears too. They serve it like a hash, so it tastes best when you break the egg yolk over the crispy pig ears and mix everything together. It was cooked to perfection and complimented nicely by the richness of the egg yolk.
Service was also great. We didn't have to wait to be seated and they were very kind. The Purple Pig is one of those places where I would book another trip to Chicago just to come back here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 12, 2024
It's probably been around 6+ years since the first time I was here, and I was excited to come back with a better palate and more experience with food in general (first time I came here, I was still a pretty picky eater and definitely not too adventurous haha)
We ordered the bone marrow, milk braised pork, and ravioletto. My favorite was definitely the ravioletto. It had the appearance of a crepe or an omelette, but the flavors and the sauce was just too good.
The meal as a whole was great, but unfortunately, the temperature of the food was a negative. The pork shoulder was still hot on the inside, but the potatoes underneath were basically cold. Same with the ravioletto, I feel like it would have been 100xs better if it were warm, but again...on the verge of being cold upon arrival.
Food temp aside, the restaurant is definitely VERY popular. I think that we had the impression that it was going to be a bit more upscale, but it definitely seemed hoodie and jeans appropriate. Every table was completely packed, and some weaving was required to dodge other patrons and waiters to get to our spot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 13745Sep 9, 2024
I really enjoyed my experience here!
We came on a Saturday for lunch and were able to get seated without a reservation. The ambiance is very nice and the bar was well decorated! Though I do think the spaces are a little tight. We sat in the high chairs and people would brush against us a lot.
In terms of food, I was blown away, it was so good! The highlight was definitely the salmon and the bone marrow, I'd highly recommend both. At first, I thought the bone marrow would be small but it's actually HUGE and well worth the price (which can feel a bit steep). The salmon was so tasty but I wish it was a bigger portion size.
We also got the pasta and the pork shank, which were good, but I don't think I'd order again. We also tried their special dessert (the fennel and citrus crème brûlée), but I did not like it. It was well plated and well made, but the taste just wasn't it for me (too eggy).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 15, 20241 check-in
Located on Michigan Avenue, this restaurant was spacious but reservations are needed. There's generally room at the well stocked bar without reservations. I tried the beef bone marrow with toast and parsley for the first time. I loved their milk pork shoulder with mashed potatoes and some greens. I would order this again and come back. A guest mentioned their turkey leg was popular during the holidays. The staff were friendly and not wearing masks.

I'm so happy I took up the reviews and hit this spot. Because this is a spot worth hitting.
We came in early, around 5, on a Thursday afternoon. The place has the hustle bustle of a happening spot, and we were seated courteously and immediately. Our waitress let us know that most dishes here are meant to be shared, which worked out perfectly for our intentions.
We were given a few minutes to peruse the menu, and our waitress was readily available when needed.
We started with a spinach salad with feta, blueberries and pecans, dressed perfectly, every bite more delicious than the last. The grilled octupus with a piquillo pepper sauce was also phenomenal. And the salted beet salad with whipped goat cheese, pistachio butter, and crushed pistachios was also out of this world. Three plates for two people was perfect, and left room for dessert.
We were not disappointed with the Ricotta Pistachio tartlet to finish up. Every dish was memorable, masterfully done, and courteously served. This is a big, busy spot, but the seating is comfortable and the space well adorned. I would go back without hesitation-this is a must visit spot if you're in Chicago.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 31, 20241 check-in
I was able to do walk-in at 5pm on a weekday night and didn't have to wait at all (there were empty tables), but by the time I finished my meal at 630p, there were 10+ people waiting to be seated, so I recommend reservations!
The food was delicious. I enjoyed the smoked pork tongue and the roasted carrots. The pork belly was crispy, but I'd like to try another pork dish next time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 25151150Aug 28, 2024
I visited this trendy small plates place on a Friday in mid-August during a quick trip to Chicago and was very pleased with my meal. We got the bread basket, which was absolutely divine--this coming from someone who isn't that crazy about bread. My scallops were wonderful also; the orange sauce is just a dream.
I'm giving five stars for the food, but the staff--not impressed. Our server seemed visibly annoyed that we didn't take her suggestion to order four or five plates or get dessert (we wanted to save room for a treat at the show we were going to). And we were seated by the very noisy kitchen, so I couldn't hear her very well, and she was a little snappy when I responded to what I THOUGHT she said. Her treatment makes me hesitant to ever return despite the delicious food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
