Location was a bit confusing but we were finally able to find it! Chips and salsa were good, variety of salsas from mild to hot. I had the vegetarian enchiladas with mixed veggies, it was good, the black beans lacked some flavor but mixing it in with everything else was good! My boyfriend got the ceviche and he thought it was just ok. He also had the carne asada plate and he enjoyed that, it also came with a cheese enchilada and that was good! Lastly, we got a tres leches cake, it was delicious but it wasn't a tres leches cake in my opinion. It tasted more like a bundt cake and it wasn't as soggy. If you're in the area I recommend checking this place out, food was quick and service was good! The restaurant definite provided a homey feel. I

Food - 4/10
Food was just ok, it wasn't mind blowing, I tried the vegetarian options and those weren't that good but the chicken tinga was good. Margaritas were also good. Also bonus points for getting all the orders right, there was 7 people in our party and we all ordered one of those plates where you can pick and choose your mains.
Ambiance - 8/10
Cute restaurant, good location to do other things.
Service - 5/10
Our waiter was kind of rude, he did a good job on checking in on us though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rivera E.Santa Rosa, CA143Mar 7, 2024
My boyfriend and I had our first visit to Tropisueno on 3/2/2024, and overall, it was a memorable experience. We arrived at 3:45pm, just in time to order from their lunch menu. However, from 4-5pm, they only offered happy hour and appetizers.
We decided to sit at the bar, and the ambiance was fantastic. The music created a lively atmosphere, and the lunchtime bartenders were absolutely delightful. One thing that stood out was when our bartender went around and shook everyone's hand before leaving, which was a nice and unexpected gesture. The transition to different bartenders at 4pm was smooth, and they were equally friendly. As a pleasant surprise, one of the bartenders even treated us to a complimentary shot as we were leaving. The overall vibe of the place was a solid 10/10.
However, when it came to the food during lunchtime, it didn't quite meet our expectations. I ordered the wet burrito, and while it looked visually appealing, it lacked the flavorful punch I was hoping for. I would rate the burrito a 3/10, which is unfortunate because I genuinely enjoyed everything else about Tropisueno.
Despite the underwhelming lunchtime food, I would still recommend Tropisueno for its fantastic ambiance, friendly bartenders, and vibrant atmosphere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 6, 2023
I've been here so many times that I can't believe that I didn't write a review!
We used to walk here at least twice a month for the lunch buffet which was usually a waste for me because I'm so picky.
On this occasion, we walked in as a large group without reservations and they were able to accommodate us over 8 tables. The service was fantastic. They were very busy, but kept checking in on us which was really nice.
I ordered the pozole. The broth was amazing. You could tell that the ingredients were stewed for hours. The pork was perfect! Every single bite was tender and flavorful. It was simply a work of art. I try not to eat a lot of pork, but I will return for the pozole!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 15, 2023
The vibe in here is so nice, like a combination of a classy bar and a happening spot to get dinner with friends.
They have a good variety of margarita options. The food is even better. The plátanos are perfectly sweet and the beans they come with are flavorful. I was so excited to try the birria and it absolutely did not disappoint. It's been harder to find goat birria, but this place does it well. There should have been more rice or tortillas to go with it, but the bowl of birria is substantial enough for leftovers. Would recommend for someone who's trying to find a non-beef option or just wants to try!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Christina J.San Francisco, CA36475773Oct 5, 2023Updated review

We really liked the enchiladas & tomales - Apr 11, 2024
Honestly for being in the city and for as cheap as their tacos were? This place is a GREAT happy hour spot. Met up with some friends here and had three carnitas tacos for $9. Not sure if that was happy hour prices but man I would come back here every day if I had the means. Would come back to try the drinks.

I have been coming here for the last couple of years and find it to be consistently delicious. My favorite dishes have been:
Chips & Salsa Trio (beware - their chips are highly addictive)
Guacamole - extremely authentic and perfectly balanced taste-wise
Plantain: amazing....just amazing
Salmon: served wrapped in a banana leaf - perfectly cooked with incredible flavor. This tends to be my go-to
Whole fried rainbow trout: this is a good serving for one - lightly battered and easily comes off the bone. Crispy on the outside and flaky within
This place tends to get busy for dinner so I recommend reservations. It's also a nice place to just have a drink - the energy is always great as their staff consistently has amazing energy. The hostess, bartenders and waiters are ALL super attentive, nice and all around fun people. They make it a point to make sure you have as enjoyable of a time as possible.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Vivian L.Oakland, CA591091695Oct 20, 2023Updated review
Tropisueno is one of my favorite restaurants in the city to get Baja Fish Tacos and chips with salsa.
(Note: Chips & Salsa are free if you're ordering food "for here" and cost ~ $1 something if ordering your food "to go"). They have a nice salsa bar. Totally free feel sample all of them!
They also have very tasty horchata and margaritas. Try going to this place for lunch or happy hour. If you plan to go to their happy hour and want a place to sit, I suggest getting there early around 3pm.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 29, 2016Previous reviewTropisueno is one of my favorite restaurants in the city to get Baja Fish Tacos and chips with salsa.

Review after a takeaway order:
Soap de pollo with veggie substitute (sautéed mixed vegetables) - 4*
Dos Flautas with Jackfruit - 1*Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 30, 2013Previous reviewNice/friendly service, Good margarita, very good Veggie pozole (soup) and okish veggie enchilada - overall would have given 4 stars but extremely low number of options for vegetarians (4 only) made me take off 1 star.
