Recently visited again (first time at this new location which is not that new anymore) and loved it. Super yummy tacos and more. Service was also friendly. Really dark when you walked in but loved sitting in the back patio area where there's outdoor light and especially good on a nice day.
Located on 9th Ave and Lincoln Way in the Inner Sunset; in between Um.Ma and Tartine Inner Sunset.Helpful 18Thanks 9Love this 15Oh no 0Business owner information

Instagram @UnderdogsTres | Facebook.com/UnderdogsTresJan 25, 2021Previous reviewHappy Taco Tuesday! Writing this review for all the Tacos Tuesday fans out there and 'cuz I'm super busy tomorrow morning and won't have time to do this.
Since we haven't tried their new location yet, this is based on their old location.
Food was delicious, the few takeout orders were pretty good. I love fish tacos, nick's way. Crunchy and flavorful. What's not to like? We also tried their San Diego Burrito (made into a bowl). Pretty yummy. I also tried to like the skinny guac, but I just don't. Not our taste. Still, pretty solid fish tacos! - Aug 14, 20242 check-ins
First off I got major food poisoning from their chicken soup. So much so that I was throwing up their orange soup for 2 days.
Secondly the waitress needs to check her attitude. She asked me what was wrong and I told her there's too much ice in my Horchata and that the soup wasn't hot enough (this of course was before I got home and was throwing it up).
She literally starts debating with me that everyone likes a lot of ice in their drinks and that's the way it is. I asked her for a replacement light ice one, and she said I'd have to buy it.
Also we arrived 4 minutes before happy hour ended at 6pm and because she didn't get to us in time it ended! So we couldn't get the happy hour tacos.
Food is good, except for the chicken soup. The tacos are good and so are the flautas.
I had to chase her down to get the coconut pie slice that I ordered with our meal in the beginning. She was MIA and horrible.
I wouldn't ho back to this location based on our horrible experience, food poisoning, and extremely difficult parking.Helpful 9Thanks 2Love this 5Oh no 1Business owner information

Hey Jack,
We are very sorry to hear you weren't feeling well and hope you've made a full recovery! We take food handling and safety very seriously and our recent health inspection reflects this, so this review was truly surprising and alarming. We have not received other reports of this nature, but we will be addressing this with our kitchen team immediately! Regarding your experience with our customer service, we will discuss with our servers how best to handle in-house feedback and what can be offered to our guests.
Again, we're sorry you weren't feeling well are hope you're doing much better. Thank you very much for taking the time to read our response. - Jul 14, 20241 check-in
Our party of 10 inevitably found ourselves at Underdogs Tres on a Monday at 5pm because I'm convinced its nigh impossible to make a reservation or walk-in to a spot near irving and 9th for dinner elsewhere. We walked-in without a reservation and were seated immediately in the back patio where there are large picnic bench style tables. It was happy hour, and though they dont have the happy hour prices written down anywhere, our waiter was very patient and helped repeat the entire list multiple times for our large party throughout our meal.
- Nachos Son Muy Grande ($14.95): this is a VERY LARGE PORTION. You've been warned, it's probably good for sharing between 2 as a large meal or between 3-4 people as a normal meal. You can add proteins for an additional charge, but even without this is topped with a generous amount of cheese, guac, pico and sour cream, not to mention the green and orange sauce bottles at the table. All atop a giant pile of thick and crispy nacho chips that are almost a little too crunchy.
- House Margarita ($5, happy hour): a classic marg without frills that you couldn't ask more of for $5
Underdogs is a great place for large groups and happy hour! Will probably find myself back here inevitably the next time we're trying to grab a large group dinner.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I was craving a burrito for lunch and I found this place so I wanted to give it a try. I ordered the California burrito on the app and went out to pick it up.
The drive was only 15 minutes and by the time I arrived at the restaurant, my order was already done so that was really quick!
The restaurant is really big and has lots nice decorations inside. It's a great place to come with friends so I'll definitely dine in next time I'm in the area for Mexican food.
I checked my order and noticed that I was also given fresh chips! They are more on the thicker side if you like that extra crunch. I also got extra sauces so thank you to whoever packed my order for me.
I took one bite out of my burrito and it was super warm and filling. I love having french fries in my burritos and this really satisfied my cravings. I was only able to eat half of it because it was so big. The size of my burrito was nearly the size of my forearm. For the size and price, I rate this burrito 7.5/10!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Had some good Mexican food at this Inner Sunset bar and grill. It may not be authentic, but that doesn't mean it sucks. Underdogs Tres is a popular place judging by the crowds and whatever. Prices are okay on drinks and food. This is actually pretty affordable for all you can get here.
Came at dinner. It's a lot more like a bar that has food than a restaurant. The bar is the main attraction so we sat there. Even though it was busy, it still wouldn't take that long. There's a lot of the typical Americanized Mexican stuff. It's about $10 for the House Margarita, the signature cocktail. This is made with agave, El Destilador Blanco, and a lime. Pretty good even with being basic. The food was better though. It's about $9 for the Grilled Vegetarian Burrito. This has cabbage, grilled vegetables, guacamole, Monterey Jack cheese which I left off, pico de gallo, pinto beans, and red onions. Filling and good. These were enough for us because we got stuffed.
Good stuff as far as not being authentic Mexican food. It's got plenty to drink and eat here. There's a few things for vegans and vegetarians.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Our trip to Underdogs Tres in SF was a total win! After wandering through the SF Botanical Garden, we were on the hunt for some grub and luckily found this spot nearby.
The outdoor seating was perfect for us, especially because we could bring along my furry friend. Shoutout to the super friendly and helpful staff, especially the person at the counter.( forgot to ask your name! )
We dug into nachos with carne asada and two Nick's Way Tacos (one fish, one carne asada). The variety of sauces gave us options to spice things up just right. The nachos stole the show with their fresh ingredients and killer chips - seriously addictive!
Bonus points for their eco-friendly vibe. They packed up our leftovers in plastic-free containers and bags, showing their love for the planet.
Overall, a top-notch experience. Count us in for our next park visit!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

One of my favorite places to get tacos and burritos in the city! I also love this location in particular because they have lots of seating, a very nice outdoor patio in the back with heaters too! A super nice place to hang out for big groups.
I ordered the nachos as a starter (did not add meat since we had a lot of other food with lots of meat) and it was so yummy and a very large portion so it was a great value. The nachos come with cheese, pico de gallo, beans, guacamole, sour cream on the side and jalapeños.
I also got the carne asada quesadilla suiza style and it was so delicious! The carne asada is cooked perfectly, there is lots of cheese, and the suiza style made it super flavorful.
I got 3 tacos, all in "nicks way" style which I personally think is the move. Nicks way tacos include a crispy tortilla shell with added beans, pico de gallo and guacamole.
- carne asada
- grilled shrimp
- Baja fish
My favorite was the grilled shrimp and the Baja fish - they worked the best with the nicks way style! The pico de gallo adds sweetness to it and the guac adds the lemon taste to it. The carne asada meat is very delicious but I wish I got that taco as a regular taco because the combination of flavors didn't mix that well in my opinion. Also with the crispy shell, it's key to eat the taco fast or else it will get a little soggy.
Service was great and fast!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

One of my all-time favorite places to eat in San Francisco!
Underdogs has a delicious menu with high quality ingredients, friendly service, and the vibes are always immaculate.
My favorite thing to get is the nachos. I always add meat to complete this amazing dish, and it has never disappointed me. It's a massive portion and it is full of flavor!
No trip to Underdogs is complete without indulging in their house made salsas. My personal favorite is the red salsa but you might like the green or habanero better.
I've been eating at their various locations for over 10 years and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life. It's a great place to watch sports games, hang out with friends, or enjoy a meal by yourself!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

If a person tries Underdogs Too, then it's just a matter of time before he/she/it tries Underdogs Tres on the way to the ultimate goal of Underdogs 8-1/2. OK so there isn't an Underdogs 8-1/2, but I never can find my size anyway. I was at this location because I had a good pozole at Too, besides which I was headed into the park for bucolic wandering and related ruminations.
It was no surprise that I ordered the $14.50 Pozole again. Not only because I was a creature of habit but because it was a hearty bowl full of pork chunks and hominy mixed with guajillo & ancho chiles, shredded cabbage, radish, onion, and oregano (photo: https://yelp.to/3UA9PaS2Ei). Tasty even if it wasn't quite authentic. I decided to indulge a bit and get the $6.75 Grilled Shrimp Taco.
This was a mini-meal in itself with plump marinated shrimp, cilantro, cabbage, red onions, pico de gallo, and tomatillo salsa (photo: https://yelp.to/psJRK9wQiO). It was good though in hindsight, I probably should've saved it for another day. The pozole was enough even if accompanying corn tortillas were conspicuously absent. I guess hipsters aren't into Mamacita carbs because it's definitely a hangout targeted to them.
FOOD - 4 stars...a hearty pozole with a lot of tender pork
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...hangout for hipsters and those who financially support them
SERVICE - 3.5 stars...attentive enough
TOTAL - 4 stars...now if they made menudo, well...

Hey Ed,
Thank you for this fun and creative review! I'm glad you enjoyed our Pozole so much at Too you had to get it again at Tres, it's certainly great to have on a chilly day. Our tacos are also delicious and filling and I hope we get to serve you more of them when you're feeling really hungry. I'd recommend any of our tacos being served up Nick's Way!
