    As Tata, Ambani, Adani buy grocery & FMCG brands, kiranas & consumers stand to gain

    Synopsis

    Several FMCG companies have been on an acquisition spree of late, including the likes of Tata Consumer Products, Reliance Retail and Adani Wilmar. While some argue that these acquisitions would lead to more consolidations and leave the mom-&-pop stores in the lurch, experts say that it would spur competition and the kirana stores will benefit as a result.

    “We’ve got an enormous runway in front of us in India. Now the game is how fast can we scale?”This is what Tata Consumer Products’ Chief Executive Officer Sunil D’Souza told Bloomberg in a recent interview. The FMCG company has been on an acquisition spree since its incorporation two years ago. D’Souza said that a ‘significant amount’ of its future growth will come from inorganic expansion.
