Ola is likely bringing a CEO for cabs business

    Synopsis

It is unclear whether the new CEO will oversee just the core cab hailing business or also ANI Technologies, the parent company. This move is unprecedented as Aggarwal has been the CEO of Ola since its inception, but he has recently shifted his focus to Ola Electric.

Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal is likely bringing a CEO for cab business. Four well placed sources said an FMCG veteran has been roped in as the CEO of the flagship company Ola Cabs. One of them said the new CEO could join early next week.

If this turns out to be true, this would be an unprecedented move for Ola. From the start, founder Bhavish Aggarwal has remained the CEO. He entrusted a number of executives to handle the day to day affairs at the cab business when he turned his focus on Ola Electric, the vehicle manufacturing business which he started later. It is still not clear whether the new CEO will lead ANI Technologies, the incorporated entity that runs Ola Cabs and its subsidiaries including Ola Financial Services or just the core cab hailing business.

Sources said the new CEO for Ola Cabs would be a veteran Unilever executive. According to them the incoming CEO was based in Southeast Asia and had held the role of the country head of Unilever Indonesia. One of them said this would likely be Hemant Bakshi who is currently based in Singapore as the global head and executive vice president of Unilever Marketplace, the B2B ecommerce platform from the FMCG giant with presence across multiple geographies. Bakshi previously led Unilver Indonesia as president and director. He began his career 30 years back in India with Unilever India.
