BENGALURU: Over 80% of female respondents in a survey conducted by Sheroes and Simplilearn expect shortlisting of their resumes, better salaries and perks, and boost in confidence from upskilling programmes.

The joint career aspiration study on "What Women On Career Break Want" has findings related to what urban Indian women look for before they rejoin the workforce. The online survey of 4,000 women professionals between the age group of 26 and 40 was conducted last month.

“The last two years have seen more women look to obtain and develop skills in areas like digital marketing, analytics and agile project management. The motivation behind this move, our alumni say, is to get ahead in their careers, or in some cases make a career switch to a role of their liking. By this, they gain more control over their careers. In addition to this, another common finding is that many women look at an upskilling certification course as a great way to get ready for restarting their careers after a break for personal reasons. Many women look at these courses as a great way to build a base to restart their careers after a personal break,” said Simplilearn chief business officer Kashyap Dalal.

According to the survey, 47% of women who take a career break are between 31-35 years of age. The top industries they focus on for second career innings include media and entertainment, BFSI, information technology, education and training.

The survey finds that the features women consider most important in their prospective workplace are flexibility and work-from-home options (38%), followed by salary and perks (27%). 64% women choose to upskill via certification training programmes / MOOCs before actively seeking jobs, while 36% of the respondents rely on networking with their contacts and building connections to social media. On the skills they want to acquire, 31% women are interested in acquiring data analytics, IT and programming, and content writing before resuming work.
