It's been almost a year since Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha' was released. Last year around the same time, the highly-aspirational Hindi remake of Tom Hanks's 1994 film 'Forrest Gump' was surrounded by controversies and boycott calls.

After months of delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Khan released the film anyway in August 2022. The movie opened to mixed reviews and didn't impress the audience. The box-office collections were also impacted, making less than Rs 130 crore in the domestic market.

The impact was such that the 58-year-old decided to take some time off from acting. In November 2022, following the dull run, he said he wanted to take a break for "a year and a half", to prioritise family over career.

Almost 11 months since the film was released, Khan recently told the media that said he wasn't "emotionally ready" for his next film.

At the trailer launch event of the Punjabi film 'Carry On Jatta 3', starring Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa, Kavita Kaushik, and Gurpreet Ghuggi, Khan said that he was currently focusing on spending quality time with his family, and "feeling good" at the moment.

"Today, we should ideally only talk about 'Carry On Jatta', but since you all must be curious, let me quickly give you an answer. I haven't decided to do any film as of now. I want to spend time with my family right now. I'm feeling good about it because that's what I want to do right now. I'll do a film when I'm emotionally ready, for sure," Khan was quoted as saying to the reporters present at the trailer launch.

Earlier in May, Khan attended a ten-day vipassana meditation programme in Nepal. He enrolled himself for the 10-day retreat at one of Kathmandu's most prominent centres - Vipassana Meditation Centre - in Budhanilkantha, which is around 12 kilometres away from Kathmandu city.

This was the second time Khan visited Kathmandu. Before this, he was in the city to attend a UNICEF event in 2014.

On the film front, Khan was last seen in a cameo in the Kajol-starrer 'Salaam Venky'. The actor's official announcement of his next film is still awaited.
