Alka Yagnik diagnosed with rare hearing disorder after flight, asks fans to pray for her

Singing sensation Alka Yagnik, whose mellifluous voice has mesmerised generations, is now battling a health crisis. The veteran playback singer took to her Instagram profile on Monday to share her heartbreaking diagnosis. In a long post, the singer revealed why she had been missing in action for the past few weeks and stated that she had been diagnosed with a “ rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss”.

“A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything. Having mustered some courage in the weeks following the episode, I want to break my silence now for all my friends and well-wishers who have been asking me why I’m missing in action. It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…this sudden, major setback has caught me completely unaware,” she wrote. The singer also requested her fans to keep her in their prayers.

According to a Healthline report, Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) occurs due to damage to the structures in the inner ear or the auditory nerve and accounts for over 90% of adult hearing loss. Common causes include exposure to loud noises, genetic factors, and the natural aging process.
