Nag Ashwin's directorial venture, 'Kalki 2898 AD,' starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, has set a new benchmark at the box office. The film has surpassed records previously held by 'RRR' and 'Salaar,' marking significant milestones in Indian cinema.

    Record-Breaking North American Premiere

In a historic achievement, 'Kalki 2898 AD' shattered the North American premiere record. The film, despite being released on fewer screens (8.2k compared to 'RRR's' 10.2k), grossed $3.5 million from its premiere shows. This surpasses the $3 million mark set by SS Rajamouli's 'RRR,; making 'Kalki 2898 AD' the highest-grossing Indian film at its North American premiere.

The film's success extends beyond North America. In Hyderabad, 'Kalki 2898 AD' set a new record for the highest opening day advance booking, collecting Rs 15.84 crore from 1,648 shows. This surpasses the previous records of 'Salaar' (Rs 12.11 crore) and 'RRR' (Rs 10.57 crore).

Both fans and critics have praised the film for its grandeur and stellar performances. Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the immortal Ashwatthama, posted a cryptic message on social media emphasizing patience, adding to the film's buzz.

High Ticket Prices Contributing to Box Office Success

One factor contributing to the film's impressive earnings is the high ticket prices. IMAX tickets for 'Kalki 2898 AD' are priced around $35, compared to $25 for 'RRR.' Similarly, in India, ticket prices have reached as high as Rs 2,300 in cities like Mumbai. This trend follows the high pricing seen with other major releases like Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan.'

Government Support Boosts 'Kalki 2898 AD' Revenue

In response to the film's high anticipation, the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana approved increases in ticket prices and additional showings. Single-screen theaters can now charge Rs 75, and multiplexes up to Rs 125. Furthermore, an extra show per day has been sanctioned, allowing five shows daily for up to 14 days post-release. This support is expected to significantly boost the film's revenue.
