Saviour in uniform: Chennai lady cop carries unconscious man, Kamal Haasan lauds her for saving a life

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. A Tamil Nadu police inspector on Thursday rose to the occasion as she carried an unconscious man on her shoulder to an autorickshaw so that he could be taken to the hospital quickly.

TP Chatram Police Station Inspector Rajeshwari earned high praise from Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal as she battled waterlogging and furious rain to help a man in distress.


"She did excellent work by helping the man. Within 10-15 minutes she took the man to the rescue team and he was transported to the hospital. She has always been a great officer. We have come here to meet her and appreciate her," Jiwal said while talking to ANI.

Rajeshwari, recounted the episode and said that she, along with her colleagues had received information about the man who had fallen unconscious in a cemetery.

"We were working on removing a big tree that had fallen when I received information about a man who had fallen unconscious in the cemetery. I gave first aid and then carried him. An auto came there and we sent him to hospital,” she was quoted as saying.


Rajeshwari said that she had also reassured his mother about support from the police department.

Her feat was acknowledged on Twitter, and multiple accounts shared a clip of the video.



Actor-politician Kamal Haasan also congratulated the “exemplary officer” for her sense of duty.


Chennai and its nearby areas continued to face the fury of rains on Thursday morning, affecting vehicular movement and causing waterlogging in several parts of the city including the areas of Nungambakkam, Sterling road, KMC Hospital road.

As many as 14 people have lost their lives in Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains, said Kumar Jayanth, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department on Thursday.
