Copied in China: Three things that the Chinese plagiarised

    Synopsis

From cars to sculptures, here is a list of things that the Chinese plagiarised and got called out on.

    ET Bureau
Original — Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate

    Copy — Karamay's oil bubble

The British-Indian sculptor is furious and threatening legal action after a sculpture — suspiciously identical to Kapoor's Cloud Gate in Chicago, nicknamed 'The Bean' — was unveiled in Karamay, in the Xinjiang region of China. Kapoor asked for the Mayor of Chicago to support him, but was furious (once again) when Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the plagiarism "fl attery". The Chinese officials stick to their word that this installation was inspired by a nearby oil well.

    Original — Land Rover Evoque

    Copy — Landwind x7

When Jiangling Motors unveiled Landwind X7 at an auto show in China, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) did a double take. JLR CEO called the Chinese automobile a copypaste version of their Evoque and said that "China, in my view, has enough creativity and engineering power to do something on their own and not depend on copying".

Original – Frozen's 'Let it go'

Copy – 'The Snow and Ice Dance'

One of the ten official songs of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, 'The Snow and Ice Dance' sounds eerily similar to Frozen's 'Let it go'. The Internet exploded with mash-ups of the two songs and memes about the lack of snow in the area. While the games offi cials refused to comment on the track, it looks like the online janata can't just let it go as easily.
