Acclaimed film-maker Mani Ratnam has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai after he showed Covid-19 symptoms. Although several reports have claimed that the director has tested positive, the hospital where he is under treatment is yet to release an official statement. Moreover, there have been no details on the current status of his health.

The 66-year-old film-maker has won six national awards and is hailed as one of the doyens of Indian cinema. A few days ago, Ratnam was seen in public when he attended the funeral of actor Prathap Pothen.

Earlier this month, he was also seen at the teaser launch of his magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’ in Chennai. The gala launch was attended by the cast and crew including AR Rahman, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, etc.

‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’ is considered to be Mani Ratnam’s most ambitious project to date. The film stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Karthi in the lead. The film is a screen adaptation of the historical fiction novel by the late Kalki Krishnamurthy.

On Monday, both Ratnam and Vikram were served a legal notice by a lawyer who alleged that the history of Cholas seemed to be misrepresented by the duo in ‘Ponniyin Selvan:1’.

Around the launch of the teaser, lead actor Chiyaan Vikram was hospitalised after he complained of discomfort. The ‘Anniyan’ actor was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. While several reports claimed that the actor suffered a heart attack, his son Dhruv Vikram later clarified saying that the actor did not suffer a cardiac arrest and it was just a case of mild chest discomfort.

‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’ is the second collaboration between Ratnam and Vikram who earlier worked together in ‘Raavanan’ in 2010.
