A day after she lauded ‘Pathaan’, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, by stating that films like ‘Pathaan’ “definitely works” at the box-office, the ‘Queen’ star made an abrupt U-turn and slammed it for depicting “enemy nation Pakistan in good light.”

    Story outline

    • Kangana Ranaut has called out the SRK-Deepika Padukone starrer for being 'pro Pakistan'.
    • She has suggested the film's name be changed to 'Indian Pathan'.
    • The SRK comeback did phenomenally well both domestically and overseas. It minted over Rs 50 crore on day 1 and grossed over Rs 100 crore globally.
    Oops, she did it again!

Barely a day after her Twitter account was restored, Kangana Ranaut is back to whipping up a frenzy of sorts on the platform.

Her scathing tweets were presumably a retaliation to Karan Johar’s Instagram post, where he celebrated the action thriller’s phenomenal performance at the box-office and wrote, “Love forever trump hate.” Taking to Twitter, the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, star claimed that the film’s success was only due to “India’s love and inclusiveness towards a film called ‘Pathaan’.”

She wrote, “All those who are claiming Pathaan is a triumph of love over hate, I agree, but whose love over whose hate? Let’s be precise, whose is buying tickets and making it a success? Yes, it is India’s love and inclusiveness where 80 percent Hindus live and yet a film called Pathan, which shows our enemy nation Pakistan and ISIS in good light is running successfully. It is this spirit of India beyond hate and judgements that makes it mahan (great)…" (sic)
She also suggested that the film’s name be changed to ‘Indian Pathan’ as India was a secular democracy and not a theocracy like Afghanistan. Referring to the Taliban rule in Afghanistan, she wrote, “the crux is India will never be Afghanistan, we all know what is happening in Afghanistan, it’s beyond hell there, so apt name for the movie Pathan according to its storyline is the ‘Indian Pathan’.”
When Twitter user Dr. Nimo Yadav tried to rile her up by stating, “Pathaan’s single day earning is more than your lifetime earnings,” the ‘Gangster’ actress kept her cool and replied, that she is not overly worried about her financial status and revealed she does not have any earnings left. “I have put my house my office every single thing that I owned on a mortgage just to make a film which will celebrate the constitution of India and our love for this great nation … paise toh sabhi kama lete hain aisa koi hai jo aise udai ?” (Anyone can earn money, how many can spend it freely?)

One of the most awaited movies of 2023, ‘Pathaan’ opened big at the box-office. It is currently the highest-grossing Hindi film and has minted over Rs 50 crore on day one and over Rs 100 crore globally.
