    Sona Mohapatra Calls Out Politicians

In a series of tweets, Mohapatra defended Aishwarya Rai against what she perceived as demeaning comments from Rahul Gandhi. She condemned the practice of politicians denigrating women for political gain. Directly addressing Rahul Gandhi, she questioned the need for such remarks in a landscape already fraught with sexism.

Mohapatra's tweet read, "What’s with politicians demeaning women in their speeches to get some brownie points in a sexist landscape? Dear Rahul Gandhi, sure someone has demeaned your own mother (Sonia Gandhi), sister (Priyanka Gandhi) similarly in the past, and irrespective you ought to know better? Also, Aishwarya Rai dances beautifully."

    Defending Aishwarya Rai

Responding to a user who criticised Aishwarya Rai's dancing style, Mohapatra defended Rai's portrayal in historical roles, particularly as a courtesan.

She emphasised the historical significance and artistry associated with such portrayals, stating, "'Dancing like a courtesan' is indeed a compliment you foolish illiterate... From Amrapali, Barani, Purasati to even Umrao Jaan, the courtesans of Indian history were treasure troves and revered for their art, artistry and command over languages and poetry, performing arts."

    What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?

Rahul Gandhi's comments during his speech have sparked controversy, particularly his remarks regarding the attendance of Aishwarya Rai at the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. Gandhi questioned the presence of certain individuals at the event, including Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan, insinuating their disconnect from the broader population. His comments also included references to Aishwarya Rai's potential participation in dancing at events.

Social media users have criticised Gandhi for bringing Aishwarya Rai's name into his political discourse, questioning the relevance and appropriateness of such remarks.
