Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus can now do intricate yoga poses, boss Elon Musk hails it as 'Progress'

    Synopsis

Tesla has shared a video showcasing its AI-powered humanoid robot, Optimus, performing various tasks with precision and even doing yoga poses. The video has gone viral, amassing over 12 million views. Tesla has invited collaboration to further develop Optimus. Elon Musk acknowledged the progress made by Optimus, indicating substantial improvements.

The year 2023 has seen rapid progress in the field of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and now Elon Musk's Tesla is making waves after sharing a video featuring its AI-powered humanoid robot, Optimus, engaging in various activities.

The viral video posted on X (Twitter) shows Optimus performing a wide range of tasks, including sorting coloured blocks with autonomous precision and swiftly correcting any errors made during the process.

However, what was truly captivating was Optimus's ability to gracefully stretch its robotic limbs and perform yoga poses. In one instance, the robot balances on one leg, extends the other leg backwards into the air, and assumes a yogic posture, concluding with a 'namaste' gesture.

The video showcasing Optimus's remarkable abilities has gone viral, amassing over 12 million views. Viewers were astounded by the robot's agility and precision in performing tasks that were once exclusively human domains.

The official Tesla Optimus account shared the video saying, "Optimus can now sort objects autonomously. Its neural network is trained fully end-to-end: video in, controls out. Come join us to help develop Optimus (& improve its yoga routine)."

    Elon Musk Acknowledges The ‘Progress’

Musk reacted to the Optimus video on X by hailing the robot's new abilities as "Progress." This acknowledgement signifies that Optimus has indeed made substantial improvements since its earlier iterations.

In the past, Musk has expressed concerns regarding the broader implications of generative AI. He even endorsed an open letter urging leading AI companies, including OpenAI, to temporarily halt AI development for six months due to the "profound risks of AI to society and humanity."

The integration of generative AI with robotics and automation remains a subject of ongoing exploration. The question of when autonomous humanoid robots will become a mainstream reality continues to intrigue experts and enthusiasts alike.

How Does Optimus Achieve This Feat?

Tesla has revealed that Optimus can perform these intricate movements and poses due to its newfound capacity for self-calibration of its arms and legs.

The company further stated that the robot accomplishes this by utilising vision and joint encoders to precisely determine the positioning of its limbs in space. Once calibrated, Optimus becomes more proficient at mastering various tasks.

Notably, Tesla emphasised that Optimus operates its neural net entirely onboard, relying solely on its visual capabilities.

    The Road Ahead For TeslaBot

Despite these astonishing developments, there is currently no information available regarding when TeslaBot will be ready for production or commercial use. Tesla has been working on its vision of creating a versatile, bipedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of tackling mundane or hazardous tasks.

As Tesla puts it, "Achieving that end goal requires building the software stacks that enable balance, navigation, perception, and interaction with the physical world."
