Bollywood star Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha', which was released worldwide last week on Thursday (August 11), has caught The Academy's attention.

A couple of days after its release, the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Science (AMPAS) shared a tri-pane video montage, featuring Tom Hanks's 1994 classic 'Forrest Gump' and its official Hindi remake.

The 14-second long video showed similar moments recreated in 'Laal Singh Chaddha'.

The Academy recalled the 'sweeping story' of a man who changed the world with kindness. According to the committee that organises the popular Oscar Awards every year, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is a 'faithful' Indian adaptation of the Hollywood film.

Directed by Advait Chandan of 'Secret Superstar' fame and adapted by noted actor Atul Kulkarni, it took a decade for Khan to get the movie rights. Based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, the original 1994 movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and adapted to screen by Eric Roth.

"'Forrest Gump' meets 'Laal Singh Chaddha'," the tweet read.

The AMPAS took a trip down memory lane. In its post, it said that 'Forrest Gump' was nominated for 13 Oscars including six wins - Best Actor (Hanks), Director (Zemeckis), Film Editing (Arthur Schmidt), Best Picture (Wendy Finerman, Steve Tisch and Steve Starkey, Producers) and Adapted Screenplay (Roth).

Aamir Khan Productions, one of the banners behind 'Laal Singh Chaddha, couldn't hold their excitement and thanked the California-based institution for the praise.

"We're immensely humbled! Thank you so much," the tweet read.

The Hindi adaptation revolves around the life of slow-witted but kind-hearted man Laal (Khan) as he narrates the important events of his life, which coincides with the many iconic events from Indian history.

Meanwhile, the movie opened to mixed reviews amid boycott calls on social media. The movie has earned Rs 45 crore in five days since its release.
