When the lockdown began, Das says she wanted things to do, to distract her from her passion for the track.

Sprinter Hima Das, who’s been training at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala since the pandemic broke out in March, has found time to indulge in a new hobby: Photography. Das says she’s been capturing pictures around the NIS campus, hostel area and the race track.

“I started this around July, when we were allowed on the ground. I am still learning photography and the technicalities. I am exploring with angles and light,” she tells ETPanache over the phone.

It all started when the lockdown was first imposed and training came to a standstill.

At that point, Das says she wanted things to do, to distract her from her passion for the track. “I listened to music, watched different videos, did yoga and read. I did some art too. I kept my thoughts positive. My mind was a little here and there at times, but I managed it,” says Das, who went home to Assam for a few days earlier this month, but has since returned to the camp .
