Bengal Exit Polls 2024: Mamata’s TMC in for a shock; BJP largest party; INDIA bloc inconsequential
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in the three-way fight between TMC, Congress and BJP for 42 seats, predicted NDTV's poll of polls on Saturday.

Similarly, India Today's exit poll also predicted 26-31 seats for BJP. Meanwhile, TMC share is expected to fall to 11-14 seats in the state.

India News' D-Dynamics predicted 21 seats for BJP, 19 for TMC. Similarly, Republic Bharat- Matrize's exit poll showed 21-25 seats for BJP and 16-20 seats for Mamata Banerjee's TMC.

"As per the ground reality, it is crystal clear that under the leadership of PM Modi, we will achieve our goal and the BJP will get around 400 seats," PTI quoted BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari as saying.

Kolkata and its surrounding regions, including the Sunderbans, went to the polls during the last phase of Lok Sabha elections on June 1. Historically dominated by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), these nine constituencies have been largely impenetrable for the BJP, with Dum Dum being the only exception.

The exit polls numbers were announced at 6:30 pm after the conclusion of last phase of elections.

In the 2019 elections, the TMC swept all nine seats. This year, the stakes are high with significant political heavyweights in the fray. Abhishek Banerjee, TMC general secretary and de facto number two, is contesting from Diamond Harbour and aims to win with a record margin. In Kolkata Uttar (North), sitting MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay faces a strong challenge from former TMC MLA Tapas Roy, now running on a BJP ticket.

Jadavpur presented a notable three-way contest between TMC's youth leader Sayoni Ghosh, CPI-M's Srijan Bhattacharya, and BJP's Anirban Ganguly. The Kolkata Dakshin (South) seat, which included Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's assembly constituency, is primarily an all-women contest. TMC's Mala Roy, the incumbent MP, is up against BJP's Debashree Chaudhuri and CPI-M's Saira Shah Halim.

Basirhat emerged as a pivotal battleground, with intense political heat and a fierce contest between TMC and BJP. The constituency has been a flashpoint since January 5, following a clash involving TMC supporters and Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali.

In Dum Dum, veteran TMC MP Saugata Roy is facing challenges from BJP's Shilbhadra Dutta and CPI-M's Sujan Chakraborty. The area’s strong Left voter base adds complexity to the race for the TMC.

The outcomes in these nine constituencies are critical for TMC, which aims to maintain its stronghold in South Bengal amidst increasing challenges from BJP and the Left-Congress alliance. The results will significantly impact TMC’s dominance in the region as they face tough opposition.

Polling for these crucial seats will conclude on June 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
