To counter the practice of forced donation during the Rongali Bihu festival (celebrated in the middle of April) Assam government has paid 1.5 lakh to Bihu organising committees which are 10-year-old.

Several organisations collect donations for conducting different events in Assam. At times it is alleged businessmen are forced to pay exorbitant donations. During Rongali Bihu, a large number of Bihu functions take place in makeshift pavilions with cultural functions for a couple of days.
