The Assam Assembly on Monday witnessed protests by the Opposition parties who questioned the BJP led government in the state over the Class X general science question paper leak.

There was pandemonium inside the Assembly when Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia issued an adjournment motion to discuss the paper leak but was denied by Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Across the state there were protests in several places with protesters demanding resignation of the Education minister Ranoj Pegu. In the past board exams were marred by paper leaks.

Saikia said that there were allegations of a paper leak on March 5 of an English subject, however no corrective measure was taken. The Assam government announced the general science question paper of the Class X state board examination was leaked and the test has been cancelled.

"General Science examination of the ongoing HSLC examination scheduled for 13/03/2023 has been cancelled by SEBA in view of media reports of leakage of the question paper. Next date will be announced in due course," Pegu tweeted. "I appeal to the HSLC candidates not to panic or feel disheartened over cancellation of the General Science examination. SEBA will announce an alternative date today itself," he said.

Around four lakh students are appearing for the Assam state board examinations. Assam Director General of Police G P Singh said that CID of state police is entrusted to investigate the case.

He tweeted, “Reference media reports of leakage of General Science (C3) question paper of HSLC examination scheduled for March 13th 2023 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Assam - A criminal case has been registered and would be investigated by CID Assam. We would bring the culprits and conspirators to law”.

Peguv said that the Science paper of High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLC) will be held on March 30, 2023. The notification is issued by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA). The decision was taken after the general science question paper of the Class 10 state board exam was leaked and the test has been cancelled. In August last year mobile internet in Assam was shut down to conduct grade three exams of the Assam government.
