It has been alleged that Amazon has been cashing in on the mysterious disappearance of a British teenage named Jay Slater, 19, who went missing in Tenerife, Spain, since the morning of 17 June. According to a Daily Star report, Amazon made various conspiracy theory books available on its website as well as on Kindle, that extensively talked about Jay Slater's disappearance, with one author even claiming to know what happened to the teenager gone missing.

    Right after the teen went missing in the wee hours of 17 June, Spanish police began a full-scale search operation in an extended radius across Tenerife's area where he was claimed to have gone missing. As the story of this disappearance started becoming the talk on social media, authors started drafting various conspiracy theories around the disappearance of the teenager and even used AI to speed up their writings, in an haste to get them published and make quick bucks on Amazon, says Daily Star.

    Amazon, too, did not seem to mind at all, even when an author claimed to know what happened to the teenager, in a certain publication made available on Amazon. The sale of books not only meant money for the authors but also for Amazon who charges for these sale of books on their platform. However, according to latest reports, upon uproar around this issue, Amazon has finally decided to take down one of the conspiracy theory books named 'Jay Slater Biography: The Story of a 19-year-old in Tenerife'. The book appears to have been pulled down from the Amazon shelves, according to The Mirror.

    Various Missing Persons organizations have spoken against capitalizing against these forms of tragic incidents that may be heart-wrenching for many. For instance, Chantal Korcz of the charity Missing People, asked everyone to stay united in the disappearance of Jay Slater and be mindful of their words and actions, according to Daily Star.
