Elon Musk' layoff statement from April prompted Tesla to start slashing down workforce?

    Synopsis

Elon Musk's net worth stands at $208.4 billion, as per reports, with main sources of revenue coming from Tesla and SpaceX, one of which is currently in the gray area around employee layoffs. Tesla's internal reports reportedly show a significant slash in employee count within a matter of a few months, shortly after Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced back in April that the company was planning to reduce its workforce by 10%.

Tesla on major layoff spree after Elon Musk's shocking statement, everything to know
It looks like all is not going too well for the Tesla camp, as recent reports reveal that Elon Musk's organization has downsized its employee count by at least 14% this year. The aggressive approach towards employee downsizing comes shortly after Musk had announced in April that Tesla will be doing away with its global workforce by a margin of 10% in the coming days.

Elon Musk's company Tesla reduces global workforce by 14%

According to the data available on December 31 last year, the employee count stood at 140,473 employees globally, that includes hourly as well as salaried workers. However, the updated count showed that there are only 121,000 people working for the organization as part of its global workforce, indicating a 14% dip in manpower, says a CNBC report.

Layoff count observed from Elon Musk's mail addressed to all employees

Although, this particular piece of information has not been derived from any finite payroll data, but from an 'everybody' mail chain from June 17, where presumably, all employees should have been marked in it. Only around 121,000 people were seen marked in this email, suggesting a decline in the workforce at Tesla. The 'everybody' mail also include temps who are working for Tesla in respective departments.

Layoff process was underway much before Elon Musk's announcement

On that particular 'everybody' email, Elon Musk had written to all his employees at Tesla, suggesting that Tesla will conduct a comprehensive review to provide stock options grants for exemplary performance in respective fields. Even though Elon Musk's announcements around layoffs was made in April, the process of it had already begun much before, suggest reports. Some reports, including Bloomberg's, suggested that Musk was aiming to cut down almost 20% of Tesla's global workforce and although it has not happened yet entirely, the numbers seem to headed that way.
