IPL 2023: England's Chris Jordan to play for MI, will replace Jofra ArcherIANS
Mumbai Indians (MI) have dealt a significant blow prior to their crucial match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with the news that English fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be participating in IPL 2023.

However, sooner, Mumbai Indians (MI) revealed that Chris Jordan will be joining their team for the remainder of the season. Archer's impact for the Mumbai Indians (MI) has been minimal, having only played in five matches and taking just two wickets at an economy rate of 9.50.

Jofra Archer will be replaced by Chris in the Mumbai Indians team, as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) continue to monitor his recovery and fitness. The cricketer will go back home to focus on his rehabilitation. The fast bowler had recently returned to international cricket after being out for almost two years due to elbow and back injuries, which had posed a significant threat to his career.

Meanwhile, Chris Jordan, who remained unsold at a base price of Rs 2 crore during the December auction, has formerly played for the ECB, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. The 34-year-old pacer made his IPL debut in 2016 and has secured 27 wickets in 28 IPL matches. He has also featured in 87 T20Is for England, taking a total of 96 T20I wickets. Jordan's most recent IPL appearance was in 2022, playing for the Super Kings, where he took two wickets in four matches.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have also issued a statement clarifying that the decision to withdraw Jofra Archer from the Indian Premier League was a mutual agreement. The ECB confirmed that Archer, who had been recuperating from right elbow surgery, had been experiencing discomfort while playing in recent matches and that continuing to play through it had proven to be difficult. As a result, it was mutually agreed upon for him to return to the UK to rest and undergo rehabilitation, to give him the best chance for a complete recovery.
