    When Nizam of Hyderabad gave Queen Elizabeth a necklace studded with 300 diamonds

    The necklace was given to then Princess Elizabeth as a wedding present in 1947 from the Nizam (ruler) of Hyderabad. The Nizam left instructions with the firm of Cartier in London that Princess Elizabeth should select a wedding gift herself, and this platinum necklace set with approximately 300 diamonds was chosen.

    Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, passed away on Thursday. She breathed her last in Scotland. Condolences poured in from around the world following the demise of the 96-year-old monarch. Queen Elizabeth II, who is Britain's longest raining monarch till date, had received many gifts in the past.

    Recently, the Royal Family revealed the incident when the Queen received a precious gift from the then Nizam of Hyderabad.

    "Just days after Her Majesty’s Accession to the throne in February 1952, photographs of the new Queen were taken by the society photographer Dorothy Wilding. These now iconic images were used as the basis of The Queen’s image on stamps, as well as providing the official portrait that was sent to Embassies and Regiments all over the world," The Royal Family shared on Instagram.

    "Her Majesty wears a Norman Hartnell satin evening dress with the insignia of the Order of the Garter, the George IV Diamond Diadem and a diamond bracelet that was a wedding gift from The Duke of Edinburgh," the post read.

    "The necklace was given to then Princess Elizabeth as a wedding present in 1947 from the Nizam (ruler) of Hyderabad. The Nizam left instructions with the firm of Cartier in London that Princess Elizabeth should select a wedding gift herself, and this platinum necklace set with approximately 300 diamonds was chosen. Her Majesty has continued to wear the necklace throughout her reign and has also loaned it to The Duchess of Cambridge," the caption further added.

    The photograph, and the necklace, now is being kept at Buckingham Palace for public display.

    Queen Elizabeth II was also the world's wealthiest queen. Her net worth was estimated to be 370 million pounds (USD 427 million) by the 2022 Sunday Times Rich List.

    In addition to being the oldest British monarch in history, Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning queen ever. Her rule lasted for 70 years 214 days (February 6, 1952 – September 8, 2022).

    She celebrated her Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 1977, 2002 and 2012 respectively. In 2017 she became the first British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee (65th anniversary) and her Platinum Jubilee in 2022 marked 70 years on the throne.
