Synopsis
The journey to space and nuclear technology started 50 years ago when two friends — PR Reddy and KSN Reddy — quit their jobs as engineers at Hindustan Machine Tools to start MTAR (an acronym for Machine, Tool, Aids, Re-conditioning). Soon after, PR Reddy’s brother PJ Reddy joined the team to helm the financial and commercial side of business.
Sriramulu Reddy still remembers the day when a PSLV rocket of the Indian Space Research Organisation thundered away from the Sriharikota launchpad in March 1996.
