    ICC World Cup 2023: India need 200 runs to win against Australia

    Synopsis

    Australia set a target of 200 runs for India in their opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, won the toss and chose to bat. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took three and two wickets respectively for India. Jaspreet Bumrah also made an early breakthrough by dismissing the first Australian player. Mitchell Marsh replaced the injured Travis Head as David Warner's opening partner. Shubman Gill of India was unable to play due to illness, and Ishan Kishan replaced him in the team.

    Australia while opening their campaign for ICC World Cup 2023 has set a target of 200 runs for India that is held in M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

    Australia was out all at 199. The last wicket was taken by Mohammed Siraj.

    Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat on Sunday in the World Cup opener against India.

    Ravindra Jadeja turned out to be a blessing for India by taking three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav dismissed two Australian players. Jaspreet Bumrah gave India an early breakthrough by taking the first wicket of the match.

    Bumrah along with the first wicket sent another Australian player back to the pavilion. His wicket count stands at 2.

    Ashwin, who was recently added to the India squad in place of injured Axar Patel was able to take one wicket.

    Towards the end of the match, the ninth wicket of Australia was taken by Hardik Pandya. Adam Zampa's catch was by India's Virat Kohli.

    With Travis Head recovering from a hand fracture, Mitchell Marsh retained his place as David Warner's opening partner for the five-time champions who also left out all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who is nursing a hamstring injury.

    India's star batter Shubhman Gill has not recovered from his illness owing to which he was not able to play in the opening match against Australia.

    "Unfortunately, Shubman didn't recover in time. Ishan will replace him, said Rohit Sharma.
