Eerie parliamentary activity is such a hit

    Synopsis

At its most intense, parliamentary activity works so well by resorting to having long periods of utter inaction, and then sudden unexplained, irrational flurries of activity that make all the waiting in inaction so worth it. Bills get passed as laws mysteriously.

Eerie Parliamentary Activity is Such a Hit
Parliamentary Activity (PA) - much like the Paranormal Activity series of supernatural horror movies created by Oren Peli - is bona fide creepy. Which, as far as its schlock value goes, means that PA has become downright entertaining. Jump-scare moments like characters going on a rampage identifying who's Hindu and who's not, questions being posed whether parasites in alliances are the new zombies, and strange sounds of 'childish whinings' detected.... These all make for great popcorn bowl-turning appeal. If Paranormal Activity is about a house haunted by an evil demon, Parliamentary Activity is about a House haunted by demons in the attic that keep coming down when parliament is in its usual seance session. The eerie bit is that while all this keeps us entertained, the boring bits - debating issues, discussing legislation, etc - quietly happen or don't, it really doesn't affect the narrative.

At its most intense, PA works so well by resorting to having long periods of utter inaction, and then sudden unexplained, irrational flurries of activity that make all the waiting in inaction so worth it. Bills get passed as laws mysteriously. Issues are 'debated' that have little consequence to life in daylight. PA is top-notch genre entertainment for a democracy that keeps saying how proud it is to keep its cranky demons at bay. We feel the shivers.
