      Road Min sanctions Rs 2,094 cr for widening, strengthening of various NH projects in J&K

      The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved Rs 2,093.92 crore for various National Highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir. This includes funds for widening and strengthening the Rafiabad-Kupwara-Chowkibal-Tangdhar-Chamkot section of National Highway-701 and developing a ropeway from SDA Parking to Shankaracharya Temple. Additionally, Rs 562.40 crore has been sanctioned for upgrading the Nashri-Chennai section of National Highway-244. In Gujarat, Rs 1,532.97 crore has been approved for National Highway upgrades, and Rs 936.26 crore for a four-lane elevated corridor in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

      Total outstanding dues of distribution companies (discoms) were at Rs 1,39,947 crore in June 2022, Power Minister R. K. Singh said in a reply to the Lok Sabha. "With the implementation of the rules, a remarkable improvement has been seen in recovery of outstanding dues. The dues have reduced to Rs 49,452 crores after timely payment of eighteen (18) monthly installments as on 31.01.2024," he said

      IOC, BPCL, HPCL post Rs 69k cr net profit in Apr-Dec, higher than pre-oil crisis annual earnings

      Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd reported bumper profit totalling over Rs 69,000 crore in the first nine months of the current fiscal, exceeding their annual earnings in pre-oil crisis years. The combined net profit of the three companies in April-December FY24 was better than their annual earning of Rs 39,356 crore in pre-oil crisis year. The retailers have not changed petrol, diesel, and cooking gas (LPG) prices for almost two years now, resulting in losses when input cost was higher and profits when raw material prices were lower. The three firms posted record earnings in the first two quarters of this fiscal year when international oil prices almost halved, but on a year as a whole, they had rich profits.

      Meta India's gross ad revenue swells 13% to ₹18.3k cr in FY23

      Facebook India Online Services, the Indian arm of Meta, reported a 13% growth in gross ad revenue to ₹18,308 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2023. The company changed its operating model from being a reseller to a reseller and operating license model. Under the new arrangement, the company compensates Meta USA with royalty payments and infrastructure charges. Facebook India's net profit for FY23 increased by 19% to ₹352 crore, while revenue increased by 20% to ₹2,776 crore.

      Weeding out fake welfare scheme beneficiaries to help save ₹18K cr

      The Indian government expects to save ₹18,000 crore in the current fiscal year by identifying and removing fake beneficiaries from various welfare schemes. Duplicate or ineligible farmers receiving benefits from the PM Kisan scheme have already been removed from the database, resulting in savings of ₹9,000 crore. In addition, efforts are being made to prevent the diversion of subsidised fertilisers for industrial use, and measures have been taken to eliminate duplicate or fake job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), saving around ₹4,000 crore.

      J&K Police files charge sheet against five militant associates in NIA court

      The Special Investigation Unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has charged five militant associates under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a case related to the seizure of a large quantity of arms and ammunition. The cache was seized from three terrorist associates travelling from Srinagar to Pattan. The associates were identified as Rouf Safeer Dar, Javaid Ahmed Khanday, and Mohammad Iqbal Dhobee.
