    Air Asia to start Thiruvananthapuram-Kuala Lumpur service

    Air Asia Berhad will launch a direct flight from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport to Kuala Lumpur starting February 21. The service will operate with an Airbus 320 aircraft accommodating 180 passengers. Initially, flights will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This new route will provide connectivity to countries like Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore, meeting the long-standing demand for more East Asian connectivity and benefiting the travel and tourism sectors of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu.

    Air India proposes to acquire AirAsia India

    Tatas-owned Air India plans to acquire no-frills carrier AirAsia India and has sought approval from the Competition Commission for the proposed deal. AirAsia India is majority-owned by Tata Sons Private Ltd with a shareholding of 83.67 per cent and the remaining stake is with AirAsia Investment Ltd (AAIL), which is part of Malaysia's AirAsia Group.

    AirAsia India posted an annual loss of Rs 1,532 crore for 2020-21 against Rs 782 crore in the previous year, according to its annual report filed with the corporate affairs ministry.

    In May, AirAsia operated six A330 and two A320 on behalf of Teleport and plans to increase it within the year, it said, adding, "with the leasing of the freighter and the conversion of planes, Teleport will be even more capable and reliable in delivering more cargo and enforces Teleport's coverage across Asia."
