The Advanced Multirole Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation fighter jet, is slated to take flight by 2028, featuring cutting-edge technologies like stealth capabilities, AI integration, long-range targeting, and compatibility with unmanned systems.

    India clears project to develop AMCA 5th generation stealth fighter aircraft

    The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the DRDO's project to develop the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation stealth fighter jet. The project, estimated at around Rs 15,000 crore, aims to design and develop the aircraft along with its technologies in partnership with private and public sector agencies. The AMCA project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and boost the indigenous military industry. The aircraft is planned to be inducted into operational roles after 2030 and could potentially lead to the development of future generations of fighter jets in India.

    The LCA Mk1A, which was cleared for procurement by the Centre in 2021, will add the much-needed numbers to the fighter jet strength of the Air Force and is much more capable than the earlier version, as it is equipped with new age radars, electronic warfare systems and mid-air refuelling features.

The timeframe for starting engine production will depend on the requirements of the Indian Air Force and Defence Research and Development Organisation but broad plans are to prepare for deliveries within three years.

The HAL and GE from the US would be producing these engines jointly in a facility in India.
