    Assam government launches scheme to develop 40 lakh women SHG members as rural micro-entrepreneurs

    The Assam government has introduced a scheme aiming to transform approximately 40 lakh women Self Help Group (SHG) members into Rural Micro Entrepreneurs or "Lakhpati Baideos" (sisters) with an annual income target of 1 lakh for each member. The scheme, with an allocation of around Rs 4000 Crore, focuses on promoting entrepreneurship while incorporating population and girl child education norms.

    The entire exercise was carried out in Jan Bhagidaari model, through active involvement of the Self-Help Group Members, ASHA Workers, Anganwadi Workers, educational institutions, police personnel including VDP, tea garden workers, government officials and other citizens. During Amrit Brikshya Andolan started by the Department of Environment and Forests attempts were made to create Guinness World Records. Accordingly, nine records were made in nine categories.

    Assam eyes multiple world records with plantation drive

    Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 1.46 crore seedlings of 53 commercially valuable species have been mobilized of which 1.17 crore seedlings have been mobilized via competitive bidding. As on 5th September, 2023, 68 lakh seedlings have already been delivered to various Stocking Points across the state. This initiative will promote tree Economy in the State and will attract new investment in the wood-based industry sector as over 5000 crore is expected to be added to the state in the period of next 5-10 years from the trees planted under the programme.

    Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says talks with ULFA going in right direction

    The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners through video conferencing at the conference hall of Assam House here on Tuesday evening to ensure that more and more people get involve in the massive plantation drive. Sarma revealed that more than 46 lakh applications have been received in the app created for the purpose. The Chief Minister said he desired that people plant more than two saplings to extend the green cover in the state.
