    Lok Sabha Speaker Elections: In a historic election on Wednesday, Om Birla was re-elected as Lok Sabha Speaker after a motion by Prime Minister Narendra Modi received overwhelming support. Despite the opposition INDIA bloc fielding Congress' K Suresh, Birla secured the majority vote. This marks the fifth instance of a Speaker serving beyond one Lok Sabha tenure. The election underscores the evolving political dynamics and the opposition's strategic attempts to assert influence in the new parliamentary session, setting the stage for future interactions.

    In a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Narendra Modi and his team of 71 took oath, marking the start of Modi 3.0. This new term retains key members from the previous government while introducing many fresh faces. The focus now shifts to the allocation of portfolios.

    Old team, new beginnings: Big four intact, PM Modi sends big message

    Besides big four, PM's core team of ministers have also retained their portfolios. Nitin Gadkari (road transport and highways), Piyush Goyal (commerce and industry), Dharmendra Pradhan (education), Sarbananda Sonowal (ports, shipping and waterways), Virendra Kumar (social justice and empowerment), Ashwini Vaishnaw (railways, electronics and information technology), Hardeep Puri (petroleum and natural gas) and Bhupender Yadav (environment, forest and climate change) will continue running the ministries they were handling in the last five years. Some of them have shed additional portfolios that were allocated when others left the council of ministers in the past.

    ​Other major names on the list include Union Minister Nitin Gadkari from Nagpur, Union Minister Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North, ​BJP national media in-charge Anil Baluni from Garwhal, and Deve Gowda's son-in-law CN Manjunath from Bangalore Rural.

    Congress, other Opposition parties walk out of RS over Jharkhand issue

    Opposition parties in India, led by Congress, have walked out of the Rajya Sabha over the Jharkhand governor's failure to make interim arrangements for governance after JMM leader Hemant Soren resigned as chief minister. Congress president Mallikharjun Kharge compared the situation to the case of neighboring Bihar, where Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister and was immediately accepted, asked to continue until a new government was formed, and sworn in again.
