Assam police urges peaceful resolution amid CAA protests
Assam had witnessed violent protests in 2019 and early 2020 after Parliament passed the CAA, which makes minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan eligible to apply for Indian citizenship. Five people were killed in the protests.

PM Modi arrives in Assam on a two-day visit
Modi will address a public meeting at 11.30am on Sunday at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, from where many state and central projects will be unveiled. Some of the major projects for which foundation stones will be laid are the Kamakhya temple corridor (Rs 498 crore), the six-lane road from the new airport terminal (Rs 358 crore) in Guwahati, the upgradation of Nehru Stadium to FIFA standards (Rs 831 crore) and a new sports complex in Chandrapur (Rs 300 crore).

The flyover constructed with a financial outlay of Rs. 127.20 crore, bearing a total length of 1205 metre, has been completed in a record 22 months instead of the targeted 36 months. With the inauguration, the flyover will considerably reduce traffic congestion at Supermarket by diverting traffic from Ganeshguri to Last Gate through the flyover. It will also ensure hassle-free traffic movement from Khanapara to Ganeshguri and facilitate smooth traffic from Last Gate to Ganeshguri.
