    The National Highways Authority of India has clarified that the recently upgraded Bengaluru-Mysuru highway is an access-controlled national highway with a speed limit of 100 kmph, rather than an expressway with a limit of 120 kmph. Recently, enforcement agencies began imposing penalties on drivers who exceeded the 100 kmph limit, leading some to argue that the road was an expressway by virtue of its appearance.

    Fines from FASTag accounts are currently directed towards the NHAI, but the new plan aims to deposit the deducted fines directly into the government's account. Due to the increasing number of accidents on the expressway, the police department has installed interceptors and imposed a speed limit of 100kmph to promote safer driving practices.

    NHAI bans two-wheelers, autos on Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway from Aug 1

    The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has banned two-wheelers, autos, tractors, non-motorised vehicles, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles and quadricycles on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway from August 1 due to a rise in accidents. The NHAI states high-speed vehicles may put slow-moving vehicles such as two-wheelers and agricultural tractors at risk due to vulnerability and speed differentials.

    Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway was opened to traffic in March 2023. In five months, more than 300 road accidents have been reported on the highway. ​​NHAI had constituted a committee of road safety experts to carry out safety inspections.
