    Amarnath Yatra 2024: How to register, routes, and do's & don'ts; All you need to know

    The annual Amarnath Yatra to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in south Kashmir starts on June 29 and will conclude on August 19. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made extensive arrangements for the pilgrims, including registration, safety measures, and medical facilities. The pilgrimage features two routes, elaborate security, and services like RFID tracking, insurance, and helicopter rides. This year, over 3.50 lakh pilgrims have registered, with hundreds of community kitchens and 38 mountain rescue teams ensuring their safety.

    Security measures tightened ahead of Amarnath Yatra

    With the Amarnath Yatra just a week away, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized tightened security measures and improved facilities to ensure a successful pilgrimage. Security officials reviewed arrangements along the Jammu-Srinagar highway, while Sinha highlighted the commencement of 'darshan' for pilgrims on June 29.

    Amarnath Yatra: Police conducts mock drill at Jammu base camp ahead of annual pilgrimage

    Ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, police conducted a mock drill at the base camp in Jammu. quick reaction teams (QRTs) and special operations group (SoG) participated in the drill. The drill involved the first responder team and territorial officers for practical training, aiming to enhance readiness for any unforeseen incidents. An 'alert advisory' was issued urging vigilance in the region. The 52-day pilgrimage to the cave shrine in south Kashmir starts on June 29.

    Fresh batch of Amarnath pilgrims leaves Jammu for Kashmir; highway blocked after landslide

    The Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage in south Kashmir resumed with a fresh batch of 1,626 pilgrims leaving the base camp in Jammu. The 34th batch of devotees left in 64 vehicles between 3.30 am and 3.45 am. Subsequently, pilgrims were halted at Chanderkote Yatri Niwas, Ramban district, due to a landslide which occurred on the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Keela Morh. The officials urged travellers not to use the all-weather road until restoration works are completed.

    Around 6,000 perform ongoing Amarnath Yatra on 29th day

    Around 6,000 pilgrims completed 'darshan' inside the holy cave on the 29th day of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra while another batch of 1,974 embarked on the journey. This year's yatra, which began on July 1, has seen more than 3.8 lakh pilgrims visit the Himalayan cave shrine. Thirty-six pilgrims have died during the yatra so far. The pilgrimage can be accessed through an uphill trek of 43 km from the south Kashmir Pahalgam base camp or a 14 km uphill trek from the north Kashmir Baltal base camp.

    Over 7,000 perform Amarnath Yatra on 28th day, total crosses 3.77 lakhs

    Over 7,000 pilgrims had darshan at the Amarnath cave shrine on the 28th day of the Yatra, despite inclement weather along the twin routes. Since the Yatra began on July 1, over 3.77 lakh people have taken part. Another 2,050 pilgrims were escorted on Saturday, with 36 pilgrims dying during the Yatra so far. The shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that symbolises Lord Shiva, and pilgrims travel uphill to reach it, either from the Pahalgam or the Baltal base camps. The Amarnath Yatra ends on August 31.
