    The Union Home Ministry has notified rules for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which aims to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014. The rules include an online application process through a designated web portal. While some, like All India Muslim Jamaat President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, have welcomed the law, others, such as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, have criticized it as divisive and unconstitutional. Kerala and West Bengal have announced they will not implement the CAA.

    A Delhi court dismissed an appeal by former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot against his summoning in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Additional Sessions Judge M K Nagpal ruled that the order did not suffer from any factual mistake, illegality, or impropriety of finding. Shekhawat alleged that Gehlot publicly defamed him by linking him to the Sanjivani scam in the state.

    "An FIR was lodged by the SOG Rajasthan in 2020. The complainant filed a reply to SOG's notice.... He suppressed this fact from the court.... My client never said that the complainant has been convicted in the case. He said that the complainant is also an accused in the case," the counsel told the court.
