DGCA issues show cause notice to Air India & SpiceJet for rostering non-CAT III compliant pilots
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show cause notice to Air India and SpiceJet for rostering non-CAT III (Category III) compliant pilots. The action follows the diversion of over 50 Delhi airport-bound flights due to low visibility on December 24-25 and December 27-28.

The Indian civil aviation ministry, DGCA, and AAI have successfully reduced flight cancellations and diversions during the fog period, despite a 22% increase in aircraft movements. In 2021-22, 0.09% of flights were canceled, which decreased to 0.05% in 2022-23. Similarly, flight diversions decreased from 58 to 14 during the same period. The DGCA ensures airlines and aerodrome operators are prepared for fog conditions, and there are currently 4,804 CAT II/III qualified flight crew available. The ministry aims to upgrade facilities and enable CAT I capability in several airports. Airlines are directed to adjust flight schedules accordingly.
