    AI Express union alleges unfair labour practices; seeks intervention of labour commissioner

    Air India Express' cabin crew union has alleged unfair labour practices by the airline, including in issuance of charge sheets to its members, and sought the intervention of the labour commissioner to resolve the issues. The Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU), which is affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, has written a letter to the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) in this regard.

    SC suggests the Parliament bring amendment to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996

    The Supreme Court suggests amending the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 to include a specific time limit for appointing an arbitrator. It ruled in favor of the Afghanistan-based company and appointed Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul as the sole arbitrator.

    Arbitral award dispute: HC asks SpiceJet MD Ajay Singh to appear in January

    The Delhi High Court has requested SpiceJet's Managing Director Ajay Singh to appear in January in a dispute over interest dues on an arbitral award of over Rs 570 crore passed in favour of media baron Kalanithi Maran. SpiceJet and its MD are liable to pay around Rs 4.40 crore to the decree holder, Kal Airways. However, SpiceJet's counsel disputed this figure, stating that the remaining balance dues are Rs 194 crore.

    With mounting pressure on the Courts and mushrooming of arbitration related cases, specialized arbitration tribunals like NCLT, NCDRC or NGT should be created, which deal exclusively with arbitration matters under Section 9, 11, 34, 36 etc.

    Air India pilots' union seeks conciliation proceedings with management to sort out issues

    "The Indian Commercial Pilots Association requests you to take urgent note of the escalating situation, and immediately and without any further delay, restrain the management of Air India Ltd from changing the conditions of service of its pilots... especially since the management continues to remain unresponsive to the pleas of its pilots," the letter said.
