    Tripura: 47 students died of HIV infection, 828 tested positive

    A senior official from the Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) reported that 47 students have died from HIV in Tripura, and 828 have tested HIV-positive. The majority of these students are from 220 schools and 24 colleges, with many using injectable drugs. The TSACS data indicates five to seven new HIV cases are detected daily. As of May 2024, 5,674 people with HIV are alive in Tripura, including 572 students. The rise in HIV cases is linked to intravenous drug use, particularly among children from affluent families.
