    Sri Lanka Navy arrests four Indian fishermen

    Early Tuesday, the Sri Lanka Navy arrested four Indian fishermen and seized their trawler for allegedly poaching near Delft Island, Jaffna. This incident brings the total number of Indian fishermen arrested in 2024 to 182, with 25 trawlers seized. The issue will be addressed during External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar's visit on June 20.

    Katchatheevu: A regular item on Indo-Sri Lankan conversations

    Katchatheevu is a 285-acre uninhabited island in the Palk Strait, between India and Sri Lanka. It lies northeast of Rameswaram, about 33 km from the Indian coast. It is about 62 km southwest of Jaffna, at the northern tip of Sri Lanka, and 24 km away from the inhabited Delft Island, belonging to Sri Lanka.

The arrests were made near Delft Island, Jaffna. The fishermen, from Tamil Nadu, were apprehended on Monday, the Navy said.
