President Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma awards on Thursday during a Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi. Yesteryear actor Vyjayanthimala Bali, Telugu star Konidela Chiranjeevi, the first woman judge of the Supreme Court late M Fathima Beevi, and "Bombay Samachar' owner Hormusji N Cama were honored with Padma awards by the President.

Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was honored with the Padma Vibhushan award by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The ceremony also saw the presentation of the Padma Bhushan award to singer Usha Uthup and Bharatnatyam dancer Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, among others. The Padma Awards, which are among the highest civilian honors in India, recognize exceptional contributions in various fields and are announced annually on Republic Day.

Justice Fathima Beevi: Small town girl who breached glass ceiling to become first woman SC judge
Justice M Fathima Beevi, born in Travancore in 1927, was the first woman judge of the Supreme Court and later the Governor of Tamil Nadu. She was an inspiration for women, breaking the 'glass ceiling' and addressing gender imbalance in the legal profession. Beevi's father encouraged her to pursue law instead of pursuing an MSc in Chemistry, leading to her receiving the Travancore Bar Council gold medal in 1949-50. She quickly ascended the legal profession, eventually becoming a judge of the Supreme Court in 1989.
