Guv Anusuiya Uikey convenes Manipur House session on August 29
Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, has finally summoned the monsoon session of the state assembly on August 29. This comes after the state cabinet had recommended the governor to convene the assembly on August 4, but she did not summon the session. Earlier, despite the Manipur cabinet recommending the governor convene an assembly session on August 21, the House did not sit on Monday as no notification has been issued by Raj Bhavan.
No special house session in Manipur
The governor of a state usually acts on the recommendation of the ministry. The Constitution stipulates at least one assembly session every six months. Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said the state government had requested a special session on August 21.
NDA partner KPA withdraws support from Biren Singh government in Manipur

Governor's power to withhold assent for bills should be reviewed: Chhattisgarh CM Baghel
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel called for a review of the powers of a governor to withhold assent for bills passed by a state legislature. Baghel criticized the previous governor for withholding her assent to reservation bills passed by the Chhattisgarh Assembly in December 2022. Reservation is a state subject, and if a governor withholds such bills for four to five months, youngsters seeking college admissions or appearing for recruitment exams are affected, Baghel said.
