    Chandigarh mayoral election: No interim relief from HC, Aam Aadmi Party to move SC

    The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to get interim relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on their plea to set aside the Chandigarh mayoral election. They will now approach the Supreme Court for an early hearing. In the election, the BJP retained all three seats, and the Congress and AAP held a protest and filed a police complaint against the presiding officer for tampering with ballot papers.

    The Punjab and Haryana High Court has set aside the Chandigarh administration's order postponing mayoral polls and directed that the elections will be held on January 30. The court was hearing a petition challenging the order of the Chandigarh deputy commissioner, who postponed the mayoral polls from January 18 to February 6.

    Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has stated that no additional water will be shared with any other state at any cost. The state cabinet has also approved Gurminder Singh for the advocate general's post. The meeting discussed the Sutlej-Yamuna-Link (SYL) canal issue. This comes after the Supreme Court directed the Centre to survey the land allocated for the canal's construction. Punjab's political parties have stated that they have no additional water to share, while Haryana's parties have welcomed the court's directions.
