While clouds remained in Gangotri and Yamunotri, the weather has deteriorated and there is light drizzle. Despite the weather, over 22 lakh pilgrims have visited the four Dhams of Uttarakhand so far this season.

    Uttarakhand: Kedarnath Dham receives heavy snowfall

    The revered Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand experiences continuous heavy snowfall due to a sudden shift in weather patterns. The Indian Meteorological Department forecasts a minimum temperature of -16 to -18 until January 23. No warnings or advisories have been issued despite light rainfall predictions. The Chamoli district sees its first snowfall of the winter, affecting key locations like Badrinath Dham and inviting seers to the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya on January 22. PM Modi announced an 11-day ritual preceding the ceremony at the Ram Temple, with public 'darshan' starting on January 23.

    Number of Char Dham pilgrims cross 50-lakh mark for first time

    The number of pilgrims visiting the Char Dhams in Uttarakhand has exceeded 50 lakh for the first time. The famous pilgrimage sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri have attracted a record number of pilgrims from both India and abroad. Additionally, over 5.41 lakh vehicles have reached the Char Dhams. Kedarnath Dham received the highest number of pilgrims, followed by Badrinath Dham, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Hemkund Sahib also saw over 1.77 lakh devotees. The police are committed to ensuring the safety and smooth functioning of the Yatra.

    Hemkund Sahib Yatra: Travel ban imposed for children, elderly due to heavy snow

    Officials have banned children and elders older than 60 from travelling following heavy snowfall in Hemkund Sahib, a Sikh pilgrimage site located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The site, which has been covered in eight feet of snow since the start of the year, is scheduled to re-open on 20 May. While the Chamoli district administration aims to limit the number of pilgrims, the Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara Management Committee has also announced that it will not permit sick or elderly people or children to travel until further notice.

    Kedarnath pilgrims advised to check weather update amidst heavy snowfall

    "Kedarnath received heavy snowfall on Monday once again. Pilgrims are advised to plan their journey to the temple in accordance with the weather update for the area on Tuesday," Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishakha Ashok Bhadane said.
