ET reported June 17 that inventory levels at dealerships across the country were at 55-60 days against the norm of 30 days seen at this time of the year.

      The plan to divest the steel business is a part of the company’s efforts to cut debt, Agarwal said in the company’s annual report for 2023-24 (Apr-Mar). At holding company Vedanta Resources, debt has been cut by $3.7 billion in two years, as against the company’s commitment of bringing it down by $4 billion. “We seek to further deleverage Vedanta Resources by US$ 3 billion over the next three years,” he reiterated.

      India's two-wheeler sales experienced a marginal decline in May 2024 compared to the previous year, with major manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and Eicher Motors reporting declines. Hero MotoCorp sold 498,123 units, while Bajaj Auto sold 305,482 units. Eicher Motors sold 71,010 units, 8% lower than the previous year. However, all three companies reported growth in exports, with Eicher Motors exports growing by 12%.

      Maruti Suzuki India reported a 2% year-on-year decline in total wholesales to 1,74,551 units in May 2024, down from 1,78,083 units last year. Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose slightly to 1,44,002 units. Sales of mini and compact cars decreased, while utility vehicle sales increased. Exports fell to 17,367 units from 26,477 units.

      Hyundai sales up 7 pc at 63,551 units in May

      Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) saw a 7% year-on-year rise in total sales, reaching 63,551 units in May. Domestic vehicle dispatches increased by 1% to 49,151 units, while exports surged by 31% to 14,400 units. Despite a maintenance shutdown, HMIL maintained healthy sales, with SUVs driving growth. Rural penetration stood at 20.1%.

      In May, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recorded a 24% year-on-year increase in total wholesales, reaching 25,273 units. Domestic sales accounted for 23,959 units, while exports were 1,314 units. This marks growth from 20,410 units dispatched to dealers in May 2023. TKM attributes success to customer-centric strategies, providing diverse products and services.

      MG Motor sales dip 5 pc in May at 4,769 units

      MG Motor India's wholesale figures for May showed a 5% decline at 4,769 units compared to the same period last year when it dispatched 5,006 units.
