The Sled Testing Facility features a high-performance MTS hydraulic catapult capable of simulating frontal, side, and rear impacts at speeds up to 81 km/h. With a maximum acceleration of 65g and a pulse duration of up to 150ms, this facility allows IDIADA's engineers to rigorously test and validate the performance of vehicle safety systems. The facility also houses a comprehensive suite of development tools, including a full set of dummies for worldwide vehicle development, in-house dummy calibration facilities, and advanced testing equipment for whiplash assessment and knee mapping. By seamlessly integrating CAE expertise with state-of-the-art testing capabilities, IDIADA's Sled Testing Facility enables a streamlined workflow that supports the decision-making process throughout the entire restraint system development lifecycle.     📣 IMPROVA Road Safety 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳 Over a dynamic three-day event (3-5 June 2024), the IMPROVA consortium gathered at IDIADA Main Technical Center in Spain to bond and align our efforts ahead of the start of the project.  🎯 #IMPROVA strives for a “Vision Beyond Zero” by preventing life-altering injuries related to road traffic accidents and ensuring high standards of quality of life for all road users in the long term. 👩🏻🏫 IMPROVA focus on understanding and quantifying the impact of the long-term consequences (LTC) linked to road traffic accidents.  🧰 IMPROVA uses tools such as virtual testing (#VT) and Human Body Models (#HBM) to evaluate the risk of LTC due to a road accident, concerning all road users.  🥇 Coordinated by Applus+ IDIADA, the project brings together a robust international consortium of 13 partners and, additionally, an Advisory Board and Medical and Psychological Experts Panel comprising over 15 members with insights from research, industry, and policymaking. 👀 The kick-off meeting brought together representatives from all project partners. It was marked by rich and insightful discussions, detailed preparation for the work ahead, and innovation workshops aimed at gathering knowledge from all attendees to improve road safety.  🗓️ IMPROVA is a 48-month-long project funded by the #HorizonEU programme to move forward the art and practice of road safety: CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency .     💡 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 (𝗜𝗖𝗖) 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗼𝗳-𝘁𝗵𝗲-𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 At the 2024 Chassis.tech conference in Munich, IDIADA presented to over 200 industry experts the latest advancements in ICC controllers and their future expansion from luxury vehicles to the general public. 🔎 Applus+ IDIADA researchers have developed an Integrated Chassis Control (ICC) system for four-wheel-motor electric vehicles. Utilizing a centralized Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NLMPC) architecture, the ICC coordinates various vehicle dynamics systems, including torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering, electronic stability control, and anti-lock braking. This centralization enables more optimal use of the vehicle's actuators compared to traditional independent controllers. The NLMPC controller focuses on maintaining vehicle stability and achieving desired yaw rate and sideslip angle references. Simulation and driving simulator testing demonstrate that the ICC system significantly enhances the vehicle's lateral dynamics performance compared to passive chassis systems. Key improvements include: • Increased maximum lateral acceleration • Expanded linear range of steering response • Reduced yaw rate overshoot • Minimized vehicle sideslip The ICC controller also allows for flexible tuning of the vehicle's handling characteristics, enabling different driving modes with the same hardware. Future developments may integrate the ICC with additional actuators and functions, improve actuator modeling fidelity, and connect current development to autonomous driving functions for even greater performance and efficiency. 🚘 IDIADA Vehicle Dynamics and Electronic Chassis Control System teams continue to push the boundaries of virtual development to deliver high-end solutions.     𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗡-𝗧 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 IDIADA coordinates the European project called the LEON-T project (Nº 955387), which aims to significantly increase our understanding of particle and noise emissions from tires and their impact on public health and the environment. LEON-T is an EU-funded research initiative that brings together experts from across Europe to tackle this important issue.  💡The key objectives include: • Correlating tire particle emissions measured in the lab vs. on the road • Standardizing test methods for measuring tire abrasion rates • Modeling the environmental dispersion of tire-generated microplastics • Investigating the health effects of tire-related traffic noise The 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀.
