Bhavina wins silver medal in Korean Open

Ahmedabad: Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist Bhavina Patel won a silver medal in women’s singles Class 4 at the ITTF Korean Para Open 2023 in Korea. The para paddler from Ahmedabad again came up short against her nemesis — Paralympics gold medallist Zhou Ying of China. Bhavina fought but fell short to go down 8-11, 7-11, 11-13.
In the semifinal, she had breezed past world number four Jaion Wijittra of Thailand 11-4, 11-9, 11-5.Earlier, in the group matches, Bhavina had defeated Mexico’s Martha Verdin 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 before seeing off Thailand’s Wassana Sringam 11-8, 11-7, 11-7.
In the final group clash, she held off the challenge of Kim Chunian to win 12-10, 11-3, 11-5.
In the women’s doubles Class 10, Bhavina and Sonal Patel lost 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 7-11 to Thailand’s Sringam and Wijittra in the semifinal.
