Heavy downpour lashes Latur, makeshift bridge swept away

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Latur district reported incessant rainfall between Monday and Tuesday. While Latur district registered an average of 64 mm rainfall, as many as six out of eight talukas in the district recorded heavy rainfall of over 65 mm.
As per official data, Nilanga, at 86 mm, received the most rainfall followed by Ausa (84 mm), Renapur (78 mm), Chakur, Latur (both 77 mm) and Shirur Anantpal (74 mm) talukas in Latur district.

District disaster management officer for Latur, Saqueb Osmani, said a makeshift bridge built on Gharni river got washed away due to the rains. "Vehicular traffic on this road was diverted through other routes. Work of constructing a temporary bridge was under way till Tuesday evening," he said.
While no loss of life or damage to property was reported in Latur due to the rains, two cattle from Jalkot taluka died due to lightning on Monday night.
"With chances of more rain on Wednesday, an alert has been issued to villages situated on the bank of Rena river. Four barrages situated on the river are nearly filled due to the heavy rain and flood-like situation may occur if the river swells further," Osmani said.
IMD has issued a forecast of light to moderate rainfall for Latur as well as Dharashiv on Wednesday whereas Nanded is likely to witness heavy showers at isolated places.
