BHOPAL: The search for Deepak Ahirwar, who allegedly shot dead a bride hours before her wedding in Jhansi on Sunday night, ended in a hotel room in MP's Morena, 150km away, on Tuesday. He was dead. Police say it was suicide.
On Sunday, Deepak had gunned down bride-to-be, Kajal Ahirwar, 20, inside a beauty parlour, say police. He knew her for some time and was angry that she was marrying someone else.
According to Kajal’s sisters, she rejected Deepak's advances but he was obsessed with her. Kajal’s family says that Deepak, a resident of their neighbourhood in MP's Datia, had troubled them for some time. Just six days prior to the wedding, he had allegedly abducted Kajal while the family slept. With police help, they managed to rescue her in Gwalior. Fearing for Kajal's safety, they sent her to her maternal uncle’s residence in Jhansi, where the wedding was planned, but he tracked her down, say police.
Investigators have found a 2.16-minute CCTV footage from the parlour, which shows Deepak entering, leaving briefly, and then returning to kill Kajal. Following the murder, Jhansi Police tracked Deepak’s phone signal to Morena railway station, but the trail went cold. On Tuesday, police discovered Deepak’s body hanging in the hotel. His identity was confirmed by Jhansi police by his photo.
